Reflect? What the Heck?
We said a reflection is not a report but deeper thinking. Opinions and why. Reactions and wonderings. Answer the question, "So what?" Why does Ms. Thomas ask you to do it so much? Here one teacher explains how she uses reflections to build partnership with her students. Can you find other examples of reflections on the web?

Hey! It's Brittany from your first block class! I am here today writing about why you make us do reflections. From the link you gave us reflections are basically a way to critically think or to learn more about ourselves. Based on the link which I agree with too is we begin to focus better. In class when we do something that we don't like we have the ability, or power to tell you how we feel about it. Reflections are also a good way for you to get to know us better. By writing these you can tell a lot about a person such as if they like to write a lot which usually mean a good student, or if they like to only write a line or so which mean they probably procrastinate. Learning happens through a mix of thought and action, along with observation and interaction. It also allows students to learn from themselves or experiences they have dealt with. If students aren't provided with opportunities to reflect then they aren't making the connection between school life and out of school things. There are three major ways I have found that you can reflect with, Speaking, Writing, and Multimedia.
P.S. Ummm... I think you should recheck my blog sheet because reflection number 4 is complete and you have a grade for it I believe but you don't have it on infinite campus!
Hi,Its courtney from 1st block i think that we have a lot of good conversations and i think that we could work more in groups and not have so many projects. maybe we could have a time during class to talk and let it all out before class starts so that we could not talk during class.
Hi Its Abby from your first block class. I think that reflections is a good thing because each week we get a new topic to talk about. One downfall I have about the reflections is that when we have projects due in Freshman Focus I think that we should not have to do reflections because it is hard to think about the project and on top of that we have to do two reflections. I think by writing these blogs can help so the teacher gets to know a little bit more about us and our learning styles. I think that also having the opportunities to do the relfections on the blog or in writing is a good thing because some people prefer to do this by writing on paper but others like to type up things.
Hello this is Hannah from your first block class. I believe you make us do reflectiong not to make us unhappy or make us do extra work, but so you get feed back from us on what we are learning or maybe things that we could change in class. I think that it is also important to reflect because we are also learning about ourselfs by reflecting. We get a chance to really write how we feel or what our opinion is on a subject. Reflecting also helps you to get to know us better you get to learn our personalities and more about us.
Hi,
Reflection reflections. For the majority of my class (4th block) I think that reflections are not for them. I myself think that reflections help me express my views and opinions without being judged or criticized. Reflections also help me to expand my writing skills. Reflections seem that they would also be valuable to you as a teacher, to get to know us better and to have some feedback on your class.

Hi Ms. Thomas! It's Kristen from your first block class. Today I will be writing about why you make us do reflections. In my eyes I think reflections are good for us to do because they let us talk about either our future plans, how we think about one of the subjects we have been talking about in our class, how we plan to spend the next 4 years of our high school life, and however we feel about something that is going on at school. My favorite ways to reflect are either through Writing or "Pretty" Posters. (:
Reflecting can really tell teachers alot about students, and students can find out a lot about themselves. I really enjoy the blogging and hope you keep doing it!
hey this is amanda from block 1. umm i dont think i ahve posted a comment on here yet but if i have i will do it again. I think that reflections are ok becasue we can talk about what we learn in class. They also let us talk about our learning styles, and intellaginces.(i sleplt the wrong). I think that we should have to do maybe once a week becasue we have a lot of other homework to worry about on top of reflections. I also like that we can blog becasue i think it is alot faster that writeing it down. You also dont have to worry about loosing your paper becasue on here u just send it and you know its passed in. So reflections are good.
Hello. The reason I think you make us do reflections is because that's basically the whole point of freshman focus...to learn about yourself and make sure you know what we're like. I can't say I like reflections because I usually don't like writing with extreme detail. Even if I take my time it's hard for me to write a nice reflection, but I like blogging because it's fun and I don't have to feel like I'm getting arthritis [not sure if I spelled that right] every time. Well that's all I have to say except for the fact that I need to learn to not blog in the morning because then my blogs turn out horrible...what can I say I'm tired.
Bye :D
