Hey it Nick LOng, I think that sleep is a big problem in are nation because teenagers just have so much to worry about first theres school work home work sports and other various activites and not to mention there socail lives i think that school should start later so that teenagers can get a full night of sleep evan if they do go to bed a eleven o'clock at night I can barley handle waking up at 6 and i do tend to doze off sometimes.
Hey its Shayne from first block. I think that sleep is a big problem in the U.S because people (teenagers especially) dont get enough sleep which can cause injury to themselves or to others. When you dont get enough sleep and u feel drowsy all day it is called being "sleep deprived". When you are sleep deprived you can be very unaware of your surroundings and what is going on. Teenagers i think should go to bed around 9 and wake up at 6 and that gives you a good nights sleep and if you keep that pattern going you will come out of being sleep deprived and awake and ready to start your day in the morning.
hey its tyler, from block 3, i think that sleep has a lot to do with how we focus in class because if we dont get enough sleep we tend to zone out and not focus and also cause trouble a lot but when we do get sleep we have a lot better focus and dont cause trouble at all.
I think that most people do not get enough sleep because they do not know about the negative effects that not getting enough sleep can have on you. And I bet if they did know that they would try to fit in more sleep into there schedule. Or even fitting in a nap. But either way this is and will always be a big problem.
Hi Ms. Thomas! It's Kristen Cates from your third block class! Sleep is my favorite thing in the world! I would sleep all day if I could! School doesn't always help with our sleeping. A lot of kids like staying up late, and having to be up so early in the morning can cause a lot of problems. Kids our age should be getting about 9-11 hours of sleep! Most kids don't get that much, I don't even! I go to bed at 10:00 and wake up at 6:00. Thats only 8 hours, and sometimes I get up even earlier. So I'm getting a average of 7 1/2 - 8 hours of sleep for school, that can cause a lot of sleepiness in school, like me, I'm usally dead in my first block class. Then the day gets better as it goes. I think that naps should be taken for kids, I think that it can help them a lot!
Hey Ms.Thomas this is Mitch from 4th block. I think that sleep is very important to everybody in the world, if we didn't have sleep then there would be some cranky people in the world and thats not pretty. I personally think that school should start later in the day because some kids aren't getting enough sleep and their slacking in their school work and teachers can't let that happen. I don't slack much but I do know that I am not getting enough sleep between school/hw and sports my schedule is so packed and sleep is in my schedule but I don't have enough of it, and there is some days when I just want to stay in bed during the week days because I'm so tired but I get up and suffer through the day being tired but I guess thats the way it's going to be so I guess everyone is going to have to suck it up in less someone can change the school time.
Like most (if not all) of the others before me, I think that teens don't have enough sleep. Way back when, people would go to sleep when the sun set, and woke up when the sun rose. Unfortunately, it's not like that anymore. Teens, and people in general, don't get enough sleep, but in this day and age, it's a miracle that they get this much anyway. Why? Because there aren't enough hours in the day already. Think about it. We get up, shower, eat, go to school (or work), go home, do work/homework/chores, eat, have a brief moment of peace and a sense of accomplishment, and then we go to bed... and sleep. If we wanted to give people more sleep, we'd either: A. Add more hours to the day. B. Make school/work shorter. But we can't do anything about work. Why? Because, due to the value of money always inflating (becoming less and less), the demand for more money arises. And how do we earn more money? By working. If we wanted more sleep, we'd probably have to change most of Western Civilization. To conclude: we won't be able to get more sleep.
I thought it was very interesting with the studies they did. I do find most people are tired in school. I think part of this has to do WITH school, the studetns are encorauged to do extra curicular activeties, so if we do so, we get home around five, on average, most students bring home an hour to two hours homework, which would bring us to seven, and thats not including breaks, doing things of our interests, dinner, and any other things. I was suprised that the extra hours during the weekend can create unhealthy sleep patterns. From what I've read, I'll deffinetly be paying closer attention to my sleeping habbits.
I think that sleep is very important, I bet if we all got more sleep we'd all be smarter and happier people :D Sometimes I wonder how much better my grades would be if I got enough sleep. I bet they'd raise about a letter grade unless I was just lazy like usual, hehe. I liked the Brain Rules video we watched because it helped me understand why we sleep. I wouldn't have thought that we need to sleep just so our brains can process what we learn throughout the day, but it makes perfect sense. Usually when I don't get a lot of sleep I'm very unmotivated. Every day when I have to wake up at 5:30 ( >:O!!!!) I feel angry at the world and groggy, so I think school should start later, like at 8:00.
