Brain Rules

What do you think of the little videos we are watching about how the brain works?
(Watch some videos or learn more about some of the rules.) There are YouTube videos that tell more. If you're interested in this topic, do some research and attach a link so we can learn more, too. Dr. Medina has a blog about Brain Rules. He has an interesting post about The Teenaged Brain.

The Brain Rules video is really interesting because it's really hard to imagine how the brain works. But most of the information is really useful. I think watching the videos will come in use someday. Maybe teachers will watch or read the Brain Rules and help change the classrooms so students will learn better.

The videos that we are watching in class are interesting because some of the things in those videos are what happen to me like almost falling a sleep in class. Also, the brain videos we are watching are kind of boring because it is the end of the day and I want to get home. But other then that they are interesting.

Hey! It's Brittany from your first block class! Today I will be discussing my thoughts on the "Brain Rules". I personally think this is really interesting. I never knew that your brain processes all the information in your sleep. I also didn't know taking a nap at 3:00 P.M. will improve or process the knowledge more depending on how long the nap is. NASA proved if you take a twenty-six minute nap improved a pilots performance by over thirty-four percent. A forty-five minute nap lasted for over six hours. You can stimulate your brain or help it out by exercising. I thought that was very interesting because I didn't know that. Our brain also need things to repeat to remember. I've also found out that stressed brains don't learn the same way. I also researched a little of this topic and discovered that boy and girls brains are different. Our brains most of the time don't attract to boring things.

Rule #1: Exercise boosts brain power.

Rule #2: The human brain evolved, too.

#3: Every brain is wired differently.

Rule #4: We don't pay attention to boring things.

Rule #5: Repeat to remember.

Rule #6: Remember to repeat.

Rule #7: Sleep well, think well.

Rule #8: Stressed brains don't learn the same way.

Rule #9: Stimulate more of the senses.

#10: Vision trumps all other senses.

Rule #11: Male and female brains are different.

Rule #12: We are powerful and natural explorers.

These are the 12 brain rules that I came up upon in my research. I think the brain rules is an awesome way to keep a kid interested in learning about their brain and how it works, as rule number four said that we don't we don't listen to boring things. This is what I think about the brain rules videos.

See you in First block.♥

Hey there! I really think the brain rules videos are very interesting as well. They really point out what the brain needs daily. Like your brain needs exercise, sleep, and many other needs. The videos clearly say that a person needs eight hours of sleep or more depending on the brain needs. It also states that people may work better during the night time then during the daytime. I personally work better in the daytime. My night time is a time were i love to relax and watch tv, when i get the time. I seem to have a lot more focus after i get out of school. Maybe because I'm not being distracted by other students i really don't know. The Brain also needs exercise, so maybe thats why I'm so focused after practice, and i get my hyomework done in a resonable amount of time.If i have homework on Friday I normallly save it for saturday morning because my brain feels fresh and fully recharged. Well thats all I have pretty much thought of.. Have a great day everyone! :)♥♥

It's probably obvious that I think this is important. I was watching a YouTube video with Dr. Medina. He really emphasized Rule #1 (exercise). That and #7 seem like the hardest to do anything with in a school setting. Well, I _could_ do something about the exercise piece, but I worry that behaviors will get out of hand, that students won't "stay on task." But my small Block 3 class did a little bit of walking and talking one day and that was a start. I would have to make a lot of changes. I will keep thinking about it and be moving in this direction.

Hey! its shayne from first block. I really injoy watching the brain rules videos even thouigh they can be kinda strange at times. They have helped me learn how ourr brain process and how it works. Like i learned that if u take a short nap around 3:00 3:30 it could change how fast your your brain can process information. A way you can help your brain work and process is to work out. I finf that hard to belive bc in the past year i have started to become more active like riding bikes and working out and stuff and havn't noticed a change in how my brain works. But i have relized from personal experince is that the more you are stressed the more ways your brain will work and think. so far we have watched some of the brain rules and hope to watch more because they are very interesting to me and it is interesting to learn how your brain works.

The Brain Rules videos are petty interesting becasue it shows what we need to know what the brain needs. I think it would be good if we followed some of the rules like not sitting in class becasue it is pretty boreing just sitting there and not moveing especially in you are a kinesthetic learner and learn by moveing. So yeah i think its pretty helpful.

Hi Ms. Thomas (: It's Kristen from your third block class. I thought the brain rules video was super intresting! The brain is so complex, and it can be really hard to grasp the concept on how it works, these little videos really tell us what we can do as teachers or students, to help ourselves either become more focused and less stressed. I loved the sleep one, because some nights I don't get enough sleep and I'm extremly grouchy and grumpy the next day, and this video showed that we need sleep to help our brain what happened to us that day and to help us be more focused the next. I want to try and get more sleep, so that way I'm not falling asleep in my first block class. I think I'm going to start taking naps too, because when I get home it's straight to homework, and I usally don't get done until 6 or 7 at night, and it can be stressful, espically when I have a cold, or if i'm tired. I also didn't know that excerise helped, I always thought it made me unfocused and groggy. Another thing I noticed when I was on the brainrules website one day, was the short memory section. It's hard for me to remember things so quickly because I'm so disorganized. I saw a really cool fact that said a human brain can only hold about seven pieces of information for less than 30 seconds! I didn't know that. I think teachers should take in this concept because they give us so much information in such short time, and sometimes we don't get enough time to write it down. Also the other category that stuck out was #4 called attention. It talked about how our brains pick up a bunch of facts like, Can I eat it? I didn't know that. Also our brain can't multitask. It can breathe and talk at the same time, but it can't do higher levels.

See you tomorrow in third block!

Hey it's Mitch. I think that the Brain Rule videos are intresting because your learning what your brain really does while you sleep or when your in school, normally people are like my brain just helps me think but it does so much more. I'm hoping to see more sometime.

Hello Mrs. Thomas this is Hannah from your first block class. I think that the brain rules are really interesting and that they are completely true. I feel that if I'm up and moviing in a class then I am more alert and focused and don't feel like I'm so tired my eyes won't stay open. I also think the sleep well think well is also true if I do not get enough sleep then I can not function during the day I'm tired, unfocused and the only thing I want to do is take a nap. I also believe that when you sleep that your brain is processing what happen that day, because dreams are often about things that occured during your day. I found that really interesting also.

It is really cool that those videos are so accurate and that they show how the human brain works. It is nice how it shows how to train your brain and how it tells you how to keep your brain healthy. I think that the administrator's should watch these videos and see how to improve a students performance in the class room. srry i acadentally posted somthing that was supposed to be added on to this on the wrong one

I think that the administrator's should watch these videos and see how to improve a students performance in the class room. The administration should watch these videos to see how a students brain works for example; a student will be at full compassaty around 8:00a.m. so that we can be at school later another thing is that we will be in a better mood and maybe not so trouble some even though it is fun goofing off we do need to pay attention some times. so that's why i think the administration should watch this video. It is really cool that those videos are so accurate and that they show how the human brain works.
